Overview: In an increasingly global environment, it is essential to learn to deal with different communication styles across cultures. On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, the Madison International Trade Association joins with the American Marketing Association to bring you a program on effective global communication. Learn how language and cultural differences can impact your message in verbal and written communications. Mistakes can lead to misunderstandings and a lack of proper messaging.
One key way for companies to communicate with potential and existing customers is through their web presence. A successful global website must take into consideration cultural, linguistic, legal, and other aspects of target countries. This program will address the challenges of a global web presence and provide examples of best practices in this critical and fast-growing area of global business.

Speaker Biographies:
Mike Bradley received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Illinois. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of North Carolina and then taught at The University of Connecticut and Valparaiso University for 15 years. He worked for one year at Abbott Laboratories in their Drug Discovery division. He has been with Thermo since 2002. He is now completing an M.B.A. in Management through UW-Whitewater.
His first job was at McDonald’s (he can say the Big Mac jingle backwards). He has two children. He enjoys fishing, camping and canoeing, building model ships and model railroading.
Ulrich Henes is the president of The Localization Institute, a Madison based company specializing in consulting, training, and events for global business and localization, which is the adaption of products and services to meet the diverse requirements of international markets.
A native of Germany, with a degree in international business, Mr. Henes founded the Localization Institute in the fall of 1996 because he saw a serious lack of quality training and learning opportunities in this important area. He has been involved with localization, first as an international sales and marketing manager at Persoft, and then as president of the American office of a British localization agency.
The Localization Institute is now the leading source worldwide of information on localization and other specialized areas of global business, with many Fortune 100 clients. Together with Multilingual Computing Magazine it organizes the largest conferences in this field, held in cities around the globe.
