In recent years scholars from across a broad range of fields have increasingly adopted global and transnational perspectives as they study an ever more integrated world. The current challenge is how to incorporate this broadened perspective into undergraduate curriculum. Therefore, educators must rethink traditional approaches to higher education, both in and outside of the classroom, and develop new methods that nurture global competence among undergraduate students.
This collaborative workshop between the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the University of Wisconsin-Madison will explore a variety of approaches to globalizing the undergraduate experience. The workshop will showcase the experiences of students and educators in the creation and implementation of global curricula both on campus and abroad. This event offers a unique opportunity for administrators, faculty, and students from different institutions to share their experiences in this area and to learn from a diverse body of scholars from across disciplines. Together we will explore the successes and challenges in constructing undergraduate experiences for a practical and inspired education invaluable in our globalizing world.
Our discussion will center around the following topics:
- Connecting research with undergraduate teaching to better provide a globalized undergraduate curriculum;
- Transformations in creation of and experiences in study abroad programs;
- Methods for, questions with, and experiences in a globalized classroom;
- Strategies for assessing a globalized undergraduate experience.
